Petr Davydtchenko

Petr Davydtchenko (b. 1986, Russia) earned a BA in Fine Arts from Konstfack University College of Arts in Stockholm and an MA in Sculpture from The Royal College of Art in London. His work incorporates various media such as performance, video, sculpture, photography and installation. He builds narratives through aesthetic decisions, sometimes deliberately overburdening a body of work with a minimal, clean, and polished appeal. Using occult symbolism combined with a minimalistic aesthetic (and often using himself as an object of focus), cultural meanings are explored and blended to rethink and reinterpret social codes. Davydtchenko’s work has been exhibited in the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, where he received critical acclaim for his work “Acension,” which is currently being acquired by a Belgian museum. Most recently, his new project “The Open Archive” featured in the A/Political collection presentation at Rue Red in Dublin alongside Barbara Kruger, Oleg Kulik, Andrei Molodkin, Gustav Metzger, Shirin Neshat, Arsen Savadov, Andres Serrano, Santiago Sierra and Ai Weiwei. For this work he has not spent a penny, learning to craft and maintain a survivalist life without killing. In 2017 he was nominated for the Kadinsky Award.
