Sean Crossley

Sean Crossley (b.1987, Australia) lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. His works present a set of systems for dealing with subject matter as (simply) mass organised across space, synthesising an array of deliberated or haphazardously found subjects and images through very gradual or rapid becomings. Loaded iconographies spanning from Hans Holbein drawings to decorative and botanical illustrations, to luxury food publicity are brought into an indifferent friction upon the picture plane. Crossley’s practice has increasingly shifted towards the cultural and economic conventions of painting; how the overlapping subjects, forms and contexts of this rich critical site perform within visual cultures of speed and abundance. Sean will have his first solo exhibition at the gallery in June 2019 and has been selected as a participant for the Wiels Residency Program beginning in July 2018.
