TR Ericsson

TR Ericsson uses the story of his mother to present a searing, soft, and complex portrait of post-industrial life in America. Ericsson constructs his work using traditional art materials such as canvas, bronze, photography, and clay as well as video, found objects, and artifacts taken from his family archives. Crackle & Drag, Ericsson’s ongoing project, started during the years following his mother’s suicide in 2003. It begins as an intimate encounter with an artist’s family archive and becomes a potent opportunity to reflect and scrutinize the trials and tribulations of our own lives, taking on historical significance as it documents and transforms three generations of life in the American Midwest.

TR Ericsson is a contemporary artist whose work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the MoMa, the Cleveland Museum of Art, Indianapolis Museum of Art, The Dallas Museum of Art, the Progressive Collection, and many others. In September 2017 he will open his second museum solo exhibition at the Everson in Syracuse, NY.
