We are going back to EXPO Chicago (section EXPOSURE) this year with works by Haseeb Ahmed and Ella Littwitz.
Both Haseeb Ahmed and Ella Littwitz maintain research-based practices dealing with phenomenon that shape our everyday lives. Using material often only accessible to scientists, each artist explores its aesthetic, metaphorical and critical grounds utilizing findings in cross-disciplinary narrative works. While Haseeb tends for an anthropological and actively networked approach that allows access to cutting edge techniques, to date Ella has tended for a calmer form of archival and literary reflection in all projects with the exception of the “Land of the Unknown South,” where she mobilized a network of friends, acquaintances and strangers.

Vertigo resident Haseeb Ahmed is currently working alongside Beatrice de Gelder and the DANCE research Group at the Brain and Emotion Laboratory at the University of Maastricht.
The project “Wind Avatar” directly links a person to the wind. The movements and emotions of a subject are translated into expressions of a character composed of wind turbulence patterns. By allowing a person to literally inhabit the wind, this project enables a person to develop new forms of emotions.
Residency: September 1, 2017 – March 1, 2018
Haseeb Ahmed will be delivering a lecture “Making Good on the Labor of Others, Dead or Alive” as part of the series “Why Work?” organized by Pieter Vermeulen for St. Lucas School of the Arts Antwerp.
