Camille Orso Caël

Biography
Camille Orso Caël (fka Camille Picquot) works in photography, film, and text. Their artistic work focuses on themes of margins, urban habits, resistance, and enchantment; it seeks possibilities of emancipation – large and small, concrete and poetic – within capitalism. They were trained at ENSAV La Cambre (Brussels, BE), as well as the KASK (Ghent, BE). Orso Caël was a 2022 resident of the WIELS Centre for Contemporary Art (Brussels, BE). Their work has been exhibited at the WIELS, FOMU - Photo Museum Antwerp (BE), Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond (Amsterdam, NL), Marres (Maastricht, NL), Fotomuseum Winterthur (Winterthur, CH), ETE-78 (Brussels, BE), Paris Photo (FR), among many others. Their first monograph, Domestic Flights, was published in 2018 by Art Paper Editions. Their films have been recognized with various distinctions: Hollow Hours was awarded a Wildcard by the Flemish Audiovisual Fund; Cao Bang was selected by the International Film Festival (IFFR) in Rotterdam; Orso Caël is currently a guest filmmaker at Auguste Orts (Brussels, BE), where they recently finished their newest film, Swarm.
