How can you look at this image and not think of Diane Arbus? It’s sad like that. Distant like that. Troubling like that. There’s nothing else there, it’s just a kid in a mask. The kid is about at that age where you become old enough to self reflect. Then we know it never ends. The questions mount and grow out of all proportion to our ability to answer them. Because who are we is the most profound question, and not knowing is the most profound tragedy.
