For the backgrounds of the works in this new series, Soleimani used images from a newly developed 46-year-old roll of film her mother shot as a young woman in Iran. On top of these landscape snapshots, the artist layers close-up photographs of birds brought to her clinic with injuries from pesticides or window strikes. Soleimani captures these portraits with the same camera her mother used in Iran. As a final step, she screenprints sketches by her mother on top of the photographic prints.
