Soleimani’s mother sits in a lush, green setting, with a paper cut-out leaf concealing her face. When she fled Iran, she brought seeds from fruit trees in her family garden, including pomegranate, tamarind, and quince. Soleimani’s mother recreated this familiar greenspace in her new home in Ohio as a form of therapy, planting the trees in pots. Despite the difference in climate, the trees grew and produced fruit, albeit a little smaller.
