Excited to announce that Haseeb Ahmed will be participating in the 15th edition of the Gwangju Biennale, opening in Gwangju, South Korea, from September 7th - December 24th, 2024. PANSORI, a soundscape of the 21st century gathers 73 international artists "who explore contemporary space through dialogue with the living forms around them".
There, Ahmed will present a new creation, building upon an existing work – Stock Weather. This 2020 installation "takes live data from major indices including NYSE (US), TSE (Japan), and LSE (UK) and uses it to generate a weather pattern inside of the exhibition space. This weather is realized with programmed fans that act upon sand, modeling a desolate landscape that is a manifestation of the global economy. A camera focuses on this miniaturized sand dune to scale up and create a filmic image, a desert at dusk, that allegorizes global capitalism."
