EXHIBITION | HASEEB AHMED

group exhibition at The University of Toronto

The University of Toronto has commissioned Haseeb Ahmed's new video work Sa(a)ns for Shaping Atmospheres, curated by Charles Stankievech and Ala Roushan. The exhibition explores humanity’s enduring connection with the Sun and the dynamic nature of our sky, blending history, myth, and modern science.

Shaping Atmospheres features an immersive looping film program, beginning with a solar eclipse soundscape. The journey traces ancient sun worship practices, such as those tied to Iranian Mithraic rituals, through to today's technological harnessing of solar energy. The exhibition touches on critical themes like geoengineering, solar storms, and environmental change, concluding with a meditative video of Mount Ararat shrouded in clouds. Historical artifacts such as a 1700s hygrometer and a live satellite feed of the Sun frame the exhibition.

You can visit Shaping Atmospheres until December 21st, 2024 at Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at University of Toronto, Canada.
