Ella Littwitz presents two of her Tears sculptures at BINZ39 in Zurich, as part of the 2024 Guggenheim Prize exhibition. Opening on November 23, this exhibition highlights a selection of works by Littwitz, alongside those of a fellow Guggenheim Prize recipient, Georg Keller. The selection questions national identity, borders, and the nuanced role of art in engaging with cultural and political conflicts.
The Guggenheim Prize and Residency was founded in 2017 by the Dr. Georg and Josi Guggenheim Foundation, in order to promote dialogue and exchanges between Switzerland and various countries in the Middle East. Ella Littwitz was the first recipient of the prize, and spent 3 months working in Zurich in 2018. The residency program is currently paused due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East; in response, the Foundation is presenting the work of past recipients through a public exhibition series in Zurich.
On the opening night, Littwitz and Keller will have a talk to provide insights into their creative practices. They will be joined by the artist Khalil Rabah (*1961), who was part of the residency jury. The exhibition is curated by Mirjam Varadinis and runs through December 7, 2024.
