Institutional Exhibition | Jeroen Jongeleen

Solo exhibition at Tschumi Pavilion, organized by Kunstpunt Groningen

Jeroen Jongeleen is presenting And so on and so on, a new, site-specific installation at the Tschumi Pavilion, organized by Kunstpunt Groningen, Netherlands. Drawing from the visual language of protests, including graffiti and a cardboard village, Jongeleen reflects on the increasing impacts of AI and militarization on European society.

On view from April 1 – June 12, 2026

Opening: Wednesday, April 1, from 16:00

Tschumi Pavilion (Kunstpunt)

Hereplein, 9711 HN Groningen, NL

"Jongeleen is known for his work in which he collects comments, remarks, and texts from internet forums and makes them visible in public space. With And so on and so on, he goes a step further: he asked various language models (AI text programs such as Google Gemeni and ChatGPT) to generate protest statements inspired by the wildly popular philosopher Slavoj Žižek, and subsequently chalked these onto the exterior of the Tschumi Pavilion in his characteristic handwriting. His style is reminiscent of handmade protest signs and evokes associations with demonstrations and activist imagery. The statements suggest strength and resistance and evoke a sense of activism against 'the system', but do they ultimately offer real stability or a concrete solution?

Inside the pavilion, Jongeleen has built a cardboard village based on military training grounds, such as those located near Maarhuizen in Groningen. Images of these training grounds are displayed on the screens. With this, Jongeleen aims to draw attention to what he considers the almost imperceptible militarization of our society, which is viewed by many as necessary to uphold our democracy.

With this work, Jongeleen aims, in his own words, “to pry open a mental door for residents and passers-by — an opening through which dormant frustration can flow out and express itself as rebellion, resistance, and at the very least a collective alertness.”
