Hand drawn with vigorous detail, the cosmic landscapes in the series The Rivers Flooded are also the result of a play of infinite combinations. In these images, the artist interweaves elements taken from the scientific imagery of yesterday and today. These curious collages, which are based on both the idealised projections of the 19th century and the photographic holdings of NASA, give rise to new, unseen worlds. We read these landscapes through the lens of our own experiences, imagining only that which is fairly similar to Earth. However, the scenes created by Bouvier defy laws of Earthly physics, defying what seems possible. Throughout the history of astrology, the question of both extraterrestrial life and space colonization have been increasingly broached. While looking for signs of a potentially hospitable planet, we look for water. This study of other worlds based on the life-giving qualities of our own inspires the title of this body of work.
