The bronze sculpture “Facts on the Ground, “ is based on the idea of fluid soil, moving territory and a dozen tectonic plates, 12 pieces of soil were cast and connected after found cracked and separated after a flood. The soil was cast from Qasr el Yahud, the site of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist in the Jordan River Valley in the Occupied Territories of Palestine. There is debate about where this original site is located: Was the baptism in the banks of Jordan or Israel? Unesco points to Jordan, but not based on any archeological finds. Finding an answer may be impossible. The national border here is a float line, which moves with the current and is found at the contact point of the Arabian and African tectonics plates, which are always in flux.
